Interior painting and decorating in Brighton & Hove
I paint and decorate the inside of homes across Brighton and Hove. Walls, ceilings, woodwork, feature walls and specialist finishes, prepared and finished to a standard that holds up. Most of my interior work is in occupied homes, so I keep things tidy, dust-aware and organised, and leave each room usable at the end of the day.
Preparation and a clean finish
A wall is only as good as what is underneath it. I fill, sand, prime and make good before painting, so you do not see every old crack and patch through the fresh coat. On woodwork I prep properly so the finish is smooth rather than gritty. Careful cutting-in and consistent coats are what separate a decorator's finish from a quick roll-over, and that is the part people notice for years afterwards.
Working in an occupied home
Living in the house while it is decorated should not be miserable. I protect floors and furniture, keep dust down, tidy up each day and work room by room so you are not living on a building site. I am used to homes with kids, pets and people working from home, and I plan the job around how you actually use the space rather than taking over the whole house at once.
Colour, finishes and feature walls
Choosing colour and finish is where a lot of people get stuck. I work with quality trade and designer paints, including Dulux, Johnstone's, Farrow & Ball and Little Greene, and can help you match the right finish to each room, whether that is a durable washable matt for a busy hallway or a softer finish for a bedroom. Feature walls and specialist finishes are no problem where you want a room with a bit more character.
Woodwork, ceilings and the details
The finish people remember is usually in the details: crisp lines where the wall meets the ceiling, smooth skirting and architrave, doors that are not clogged with old paint. I take the woodwork seriously, sanding back and building up coats so it feels right to the touch, not just from across the room. Ceilings get the same attention, cut in neatly rather than left patchy. It is slower than a quick two-coat blitz, but it is the difference you live with every day.

Interior painting & decorating: common questions
Do you use breathable paint on old or solid walls?
Yes. Older, solid-wall properties need finishes that let the wall breathe, otherwise you trap moisture and cause more harm than good. On period and render work I use breathable products where they are needed, matched to the wall.
How do you deal with flaking paint, damaged render or damp before painting?
Preparation is most of the job. I scrape back flaking paint, make good damaged render, treat the cause of any damp where I can, and prime properly before any topcoat goes on. That is what makes a finish last rather than just look good on day one.
